Here Are 8 Benefits of Stretching

You don’t need special equipment, location or clothing to stretch. Or training, or teammates.

Regular stretching can help improve your physical and mental health and be beneficial in the following ways:

  1. Stretching increases your flexibility

Increasing your flexibility will help you tackle everyday activities more easily and help fend off the reduced mobility that creeps up on a lot of people as they age.

  1. Stretches increases your range of motion

Being able to move a joint through its full range of motion gives you more freedom of movement.

  1. 3. Stretching helps calm your body after exercise

It’s important to give your body time to cool down after a workout. Doing so will help lower your heart rate, calm your breathing, and more quickly ease you out of exercise mode.

Stretching after a workout can also increase blood flow, boost oxygen levels, and help deliver nutrients throughout your body.

  1. Stretching improves your performance in physical activities

Performing stretches prior to physical activities can help prepare your muscles for the activity. It may also help improve your performance in an athletic contest or in your exercise.

  1. Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles

Stretching regularly can improve circulation, which increases blood flow to your muscles. That can shorten your recovery time and reduce muscle soreness.

  1. Stretching improves your posture

A combination of strengthening and stretching specific muscle groups can reduce musculoskeletal pain and encourage proper alignment. That, in turn, may help improve your posture.

  1. Stretching helps heal and prevent back pain

Tight muscles can lead to a decrease in your range of motion. When this happens, you increase the likelihood of straining the muscles in your back. Stretching can help heal an existing back injury by stretching the muscles.

A regular stretching routine can also help prevent future back pain by strengthening your back muscles and reducing your risk for muscle strain.

  1. Stretching helps with stress relief

When you’re stressed, there’s a good chance your muscles are tense. That’s because your muscles tend to tighten up in response to physical and emotional stress. Focus on the areas where you tend to hold stress, such as your shoulders, neck and upper back.
