Headaches: They’re Common, But Not Normal. A Chiropractor Can Help!

We all have headaches from time to time, but sometimes it’s a larger issue that could benefit from a chiropractor’s care.

Headaches are extremely common. Nearly every person has a headache on occasion.

But, when you suffer from headaches repeatedly, they are a symptom of what’s called a headache disorder. The most common headache disorder is a tension headache (along with migraines, cluster headaches, and medication-overuse headaches).

What can set off a tension headache? It varies by person, and something that may give you a pounding headache may not affect someone else at all.

 Here are some potential culprits:

  • Stress
  • Lack of sleep
  • Long hours at a computer or looking at your phone
  • Fatigue
  • Hunger
  • Caffeine withdrawal
  • Abruptly stopping a medication that contains caffeine, including ibuprofen and acetaminophen
  • Changes in the weather
  • Chocolate, processed foods that contain MSG, and alcohol
  • Being around smoke
  • Bright light (such as sunlight) or flashing lights
  • A change in estrogen levels for women
What Can a Chiropractor Do to Help?

According to the American Chiropractic Association, a spinal adjustment is an effective headache treatment option for many sufferers. Chiropractic adjustment can improve acute and chronic neck pain, which can reduce the number of headaches you’ll experience — whether you suffer from tension headaches, migraines or some other kind.

If the cause of your headache is related to joint misalignment or fixation that is irritating the nerve, then a chiropractic adjustment at Keith Clinic may release pressure on the joint and surrounding nerve to alleviate headache pain.

Chiropractic doctors are trained to assess muscle and joint dysfunction and by treating both simultaneously with therapies such as massage, ultrasound, and electric muscle stimulation, chiropractic can address the direct cause, not just treat the symptoms like an over-the-counter medication would do.
